Defamation
It is telling lies something about someone in order to
ridicule them or damage their reputation. It is the legal term for any wrong
statement that harms an individual reputation. This is part of the three things
that cause legal problems because it falls under Abusive Language. If a person
feels their reputation is affected, they can take legal action and sue the
company or the individual who made the remarks.
Good Guy Syndrome
People make legally dangerous statement because they want to make themselves and the receivers feel better in order to have a good relationship. An example of good guy syndrome in the case of a U.S.A law firm interviewing job candidates. One of the firm partners was asked to inform a candidate that she was not selected. In every message there comes a situation in which the
company has to deliver some sort of bad news to its customer, investor,
supplier, etc. maintaining the good relationships with them. But sometimes,
doing so, the company can make a mistake by delivering the message too gently
that the actual matter is overlooked. This can further create some legal
problems that the company may have to handle.
Abusive Language
As it is very clear from the name itself, abusive language
refers to the use of improper and wrong words which can be hurtful and
insulting to the receiver of the message. Considering the importance of
business relationships in the business, it is really important not to indulge
yourself in the use of abusive language.
Abusive language can be legally actionable when it meets the
following three conditions:
- · When it is false
- · When it harms the good name of the other person
- · When it is published, i.e. , spoken or written in the presence of another party
